A residence that consists of an 8,300 square foot house, a 1,000 square foot collector garage, and an 800 square foot garage on a five acre site with 35' of elevation change.
The design team chose to site the building so that the main structure's mass and the collector garage were nestled on the site, creating an informal approach and a private "backyard." The main structure is simply organized - it consists of a box for entertaining and a box for privacy. The two boxes are joined with horizontal and vertical circulation and the heart of the house - the kitchen. The organization is acknowledged in the exterior materials via stucco for the boxes and a horizontal ribbed panel system for the transitional space. The main floor contains the largest living space with views to the northwest and the salt water in ground pool below. The lower level at the pool contains a play room, exercise facilities, and a guest suite. The upper floor consists of the technology room, office, and three identical kids bedroom/bathrooms that overlook the main living area.
