Port Columbus National Civil War Naval Museum
Dating back to 2001, 2WR has provided multiple concepts for the expansion of services at Port Columbus. The initial study included the addition of eight new buildings including a banquet facility and a replica Civil War Naval Ship complete with sleeping quarters. Another study evaluated expansion to the rear of the existing structure to include more gallery space for large-scale exhibitions. A third study included an expansion at the front of this existing building in an effort to enliven a rather staid exterior and main entrance.
All studies strove to emulate period architecture whether as independent period forms, or perceived as additions to existing period architecture. The resulting use of heavy timber, brick, exposed steel, wood, and punched window openings are assembled per the scale and proportion specific to the type of building.
